History of the Wisconsin Court System The Wisconsin court system was established when Wisconsin became a state in 1848 by Arti- cle VII of the Wisconsin Constitution. The state was divided into five judicial districts, with five judges who were required to meet in Madison at least once a year as a Supreme Court.
